Committing to the pass

Today's techniques covered-

double leg takedown-
1. collar and sleeve grip
2. duck-under like motion while taking inside knee, stepping outside opponent's outside leg, and scooping far leg
3. bring opponent's leg to the sky while driving shoulder into their midsection while stepping outside of their other leg to avoid guard. bridge-like motion with back of head driving into back of their shoulder/tricep

keys to this- stepping outside opponent's leg to avoid guard jumping, back of head pressure

101 pass from full guard
1. posture with sleeve grip (your arms tucked inside opponent's thighs)
2. step with foot on side of controlled arm and stand, looking up and bringing hips forward while bringing opponent's sleeve up
3. break guard by putting pressure on opponent's lower thigh just above knee while stepping back and shaking them off.
4. big step outside to passing side
5. free hand controls lower lapel or hip, bring opponent's controlled arm to sky while planting knee and sliding through over opponent's leg.
6. control underhook

keys to this- strong sleeve control, hips forward, pressure on the right spot while stepping back, tight slide through with knee

guard drill analysis-
major issue- didn't commit to the pass (or abandoned too early) during one drill. opponent was able to come to knees, as i didn't have complete control. need to ensure full control in side mount before i ease up.

rolling-

sean- mainly stayed in my guard the whole match. i tried to attack spinning armlocks and looking for triangles, but didn't really get much. maintained sleeve grip on one side. opened guard and threatened scissor sweep when he got close to opening. in the end, i was able to trap his arm via spining armlock and take his back before collar choking.

could have improved on sweeping or opening up my game more. as sean is much larger than me, i didn't want to chance open guard against him, so i played it cautious and fought from closed guard and mainly prevented him from passing. need to work on- commiting to moves, being more aggressive in the guard, setting up sweeps.

the good- taking the back from the guard seems to work well once i control a sleeve and miss the spinning arm lock.

george- started from his open guard, was able to pass briefly and control for a bit, but got reversed and put into my guard. played some spider guard but didn't really know what to do. ended up side controlling him somehow, but he reinjured his shoulder so we stopped.

could have improved- side control? hold downs were decent, but escapable after awhile. need to stay with it.

the good- passing? i've been able to pass pretty well via toriani and by controlling the legs once i'm almost past.

josh- he's a collegiate wrestler, so i wasn't going to try and take him down at all. played in my guard the whole time and hit a spinning armlock and a collar choke. overall was pretty smooth.

could have improved- aggressiveness in guard? definitely need to work on sweeps from closed guard rather than just being content to stay on my back and attack from guard (more options).

also, my spinning armlock have been more speed than technique lately. gotta get them tighter.

the good- got in some situations where i was smothered and almost got passed, but stayed calm and got out.

main things i picked up from this practice-

-more double leg mechanics
-the 101 pass- DEFINITELY need to implement this into my game
-side control- gotta make sure i fully pass before easing up at all
-spinning armlocks- gotta get the mechanics back.
-the cardio is coming back. not there yet, but getting there.
