Kid's class

I helped coach the kids' classes today. First the 4-7 year olds, and then the 8-15 year olds. Definitely an interesting experience. Some of the kids were actually really good and technical. It was interesting watching a little 8 year old take the back and sink in a RNC on another kid.

Got to drill some key moves before those classes.

The arm drag- need to pull HARD and get my hip out. Could possibly post my hand to help get out.

Pendulum sweep- must use high leg in armpit in conjunction with foot to swing and get momentum. Can be used in conjunction with collar choke or spinning arm lock to maximize effectiveness.

The Butterfly pass- need to look in direction of where I'm passing. Use head and shoulder to block a kimura attempt while keeping elbow TIGHT. Need to angle body slightly, can't be completely square.

Butterfly sweep- can be used to set up x-guard if they post. Probably my best bet, as those other sweep combos from the Marcelo dvd were very complicated and seem difficult to pull off.

things Manny worked on-
-half guard 101 pass
-elevator sweep from de la riva with sleeve and collar
-elevator sweep to arm bar from double hip control and double sleeve control
-single leg on shoulder pass

No Gi

techniques

-single leg from cross arm drag to running the pipe
post head on hip and use to control. drive in circle where leg used to be
-single leg with high leg/trip
step outside and lift leg high, keeping arm trapped.
-guard pass from hip pin/high shin twist

rolling

-hard to submit someone with no gi, they are a lot harder to get ahold of
-mount and back mount seem like the strongest places to be. side mount seems less stable with no gi
-kimuras and arm triangles are good!
-you can often get hook sweeps off of single leg attempts if you time it right
-elevated butterfly is wonderful to set up the x-guard or even just to sweep straight
-you can reverse a takedown if you time it right
-gotta establish solid control with necktie probably
-arm dragging is difficult if you try and go straight into it, must combo with other things
-x-guard entry is best with the cross side arm to grab, gives you that extra split second
-strong leg/knee control is essential for x-guard
-good sprawl is so necessary
-need to drive through more for the double leg
-must drop and change levels before i try to shoot
-must commit to the shot if i go for it
-must practice standup as much as possible
