Revisiting Back Control, working on specific passes

early class

techniques-

1. back escape
2. straight collar choke from back

drill

stopping the straight collar choke- must grab above where they grab!

if they start to escape to one side- get under again and attack other collar.

halfback is good to control the back.

strong harness is critical.

i forgot about the marcelo move where you walk perpendicular and then bridge to your knees to regain back control. that would have been perfect.

advanced class

1. inside hook trip
2. spider guard pass- duck under
3. spider guard pass- forearm in bend of knee
4. single leg counter- elevator sweep

rolling

good-

got the grips off my pants right away. attacked some sweeps from open guard, recovered nicely.

defended from half guard rather well. not getting tapped like i used to when they were on top. maybe the half butterfly has something to do with it.

actually set up x-guard nicely. gotta combo with butterfly hook sweeps- can't just go straight in if they know what i'm doing.

actually getting the armdrag down better.

to improve-

-sweeps from open guard. gotta lift with the butterfly hooks.

-sweeps from open guard- tripod! an old staple that i've been forgetting.

-possibility of being choked from double underhook pass. if they are strong enough, they can apply enough pressure to the neck to make me tap. gotta figure this one out.

-passing. i'm relying too much on my staple toriani pass. it works for me all the time now, so i always revert to it. gotta master the 101 and the double underhook pass. should try and focus on those exclusively if i want to really get a balanced passing game.

i probably need to drill some moves. maybe when stronghold opens.
